Maria Jose Minguez – Ime koje se ne zaboravlja

U intervjuu za Harper’s BAZAAR Serbia, Maria Jose Minguez govori o modnoj industriji i izazovima koje sa sobom nosi, unutrašnjoj lepoti, kao i o planovima za budućnost.

1. Kako biste opisali sebe? 

Sebe opisujem kao osobu punu empatije prema drugima. Volim sport i zdravu hranu, ali i čokoladne palačinke i kafu… Smatram da je odanost najveća vrednost prijatelja, te se sa takvim ljudima i družim. Volim meditaciju i jogu. Veoma sam emotivna i stidljiva ali i osoba koja će uvek ubediti ljude da slede svoje snove i intuiciju. Mislim da je to jedini način da se živi život pun strasti!

2. Znamo da se zalažete za telesnu pozitivnost. Kada je to postalo deo Vašeg dnevnog reda?

Kao dete, bila sam veoma mršava, ali kada sam prestala sa gimnastikom zbog tadašnje povrede, telesna težina je počela da se menja. U isto vreme sam počela da se bavim modelingom, u kome mi modna industrija nije nimalo pomogla. Rezimirajući ovih godina, naučila sam da volim svoje telo i prihvatim ga onakvim kakvo jeste. U tome mi je pomogla meditacija i vreme koje sam provela na Bliskom Istoku. Trudim se da pomognem ljudima u svojoj okolini da nauče da vole svoje nesavršenosti, jer je to put ka samopouzdanju I ljubavi prema sebi.

3. Modna industrija može biti prilično izazovna. Šta se zaista dešava iza kamera?

Iza kamera se sve događa veoma brzo. Kada slikate katalog, morate da se presvučete preko 100 puta! Na modnim revijama, sa druge stran, imate više slobodnog vremena, većina modela je uglavnom na telefonima između proba … čitajući knjigu, možda učeći, ćaskajući.  Fascinantna je količina energije i adrenalina pred sam početak revije.

4. Da li se unutrašnja lepota i dalje smatra važnijom od spoljašnje, imajući u vidu vreme u kom živimo?

Mislim da će unutrašnja lepota uvek biti važnija, pre svega govorim o zdravlju, ali istina je da ponekad više brinemo o spoljašnjoj lepoti nego o unutrašnjoj.

5. Da li je ikada bilo trenutka kada ste pomislili da modeling nije za Vas?

Da, kada govorimo o iskušenjima i idealnoj manekenskoj silueti. Ali srećom, danas je tržište otvoreno za različite građe i veličine.

6. Da li smatrate da se moramo više fokusirati na svoj potencijal, a ne na svoje slabosti?

Definitivno, moramo se potpuno usredsrediti na svoj potencijal i vrline koje svako od nas poseduje. Promene umeju biti veoma teške, ali uvek možemo početi ispočetka, sa fokusom na poboljšanju teških situacija, kroz koje neminovno svi prolazimo.

7. Ljudi se često plaše da razgovaraju o nesavršenostima. Koji je vaš najveći?

Nisam pouzdana, posebno kada se sastajem sa prijateljima. Poslednjih godinu dana, radim na sebi I trudim se da uvek stignem na vreme.

8. Imate i glumačke ambicije. Da li ste napravili potez u ovom pravcu?

Upravo sam započela osnovne kurseve i veoma se radujem studiranju i upoznavanju kinematografije. Volela bih da se u bliskoj budućnosti bavim ovom profesijom.

9. Šta gledate kad imate slobodnog vremena?

Netflix naravno! Zavisi od raspoloženja ali uglavno gledam romantične komedije, akcione filmove, ponekad futurističke i dokumentarne.

10. Čiji biste život igrali na velikom platnu?

Kate Winslet u filmu“Titanik” ili Julia Roberts u „Jedi, moli, voli“. Jednostavno ih osećam u ovim ulogama.

11. Recite nam nešto o sebi što nećemo naći na Internetu…

1)Napravila sam veliki garderober u roditeljskoj kući koju još uvek nisam podelila na svom Instagramu ali uskoro hoću!

2) Nikada na svom Instagramu nisam objavila sliku svog partnera, volim da držim svoj ljubavni život u privatnosti.

1. How would you describe yourself?

I describe myself as a human with a huge empathy to others, who likes everything to be organized at home, I love sports, healthy food in general, but also chocolate crepes, coffee…

I really consider loyalty a must value to the friends I hang with…

I love Meditation and yoga; I believe it should be included in all the schools since we re kids. It would really change the mindset of kids once they turn adults in a positive way.

I’m very emotive, shy but expressive human who will always convince people to follow their dreams and heart/intuition… I think that’s the only way to live a life full of passion, wish and charm.

2. I know you are all about body positivity. When did that become a part of your agenda?

When I was a kid, I was really skinny, but once stopped gymnastics because of an injury, same time I started to get into modelling my body weight started to change (age of 15), and first I was happy to see me with bigger legs, ha-ha but then fashion industry didn’t help in that moment.  

After few years of trying strong diets that weren’t stable, I try to move into the curve market (actually in 2015). But in that moment and for that industry I felt the same way than before but in the opposite way, this means that I felt it like I was needing to put weight up.  

That new situation was great because it made me release the anxiety that I got from doing strong diets the previous years. So, I start to eat just normal and choosing healthy…

All of this made me just accept me in any weight that I could naturally be, and then my weight get back to “normal” let’s say naturally… in the moment I release stress with food, my weight got stable and since that I kept working mostly in the Middle East, where I had my residence in the past years.

In summary, in these years I learnt a lot to love my body, accept it, I did a lot of self-reflection and meditation, I read a lot of books related to self-love and body positivity.

I encourage to everyone to not stress much in general and just try to think that everything its fine and changing constantly, we can’t pretend to control everything, but in the moment we stop stressing we see things easier and more clear.  

3. The modeling industry can be quite challenging. What’s really happening behind the scenes?

Behind scenes everything goes fast, fast and fast!

For example, when you have an e-com or catalog you just keep changing dresses even 100 dresses and more in 1 day only imagine!  

Other day, maybe you re shooting a campaign and then there you see beautiful locations, you have most of the time a great catering, always there is the make-up artist, or hair stylish for touch up who need to be on rush! unfortunately, the rush time and pressure is mainly on them!  

In fashion shows, we also get a lot of time off, most of the models these days we’re in our phones in between shows or rehearsal… reading a book, maybe studying, chatting, some others take this break to smoke (not me! Ha-ha), or to take pictures for Instagram (that’s me! Ha-ha) and of course, there is a lot of emotion and adrenaline before the show starts!

4. Is inner beauty still considered more important than external one, having in mind the time we live in?

I think inner beauty will always bet external one at the end, but it’s true that sometimes we take care more about the external beauty than our inner one (referring to inner beauty as our internal health too).

5. Has there ever been a moment you felt like this is not the right thing for you?

Yes, when talking about measurements. But thanks god, nowadays the market is open to every size.

Now the fashion industry called “in between” models, for those who aren’t “skinnies” or “curvies”.

6. Do you think, in general, we need to focus more on our potential and not on our weaknesses?

Definitely, we need to focus 100 per cent in our potential, in our virtues and from that point improve in our weaknesses. Someone told me once: “Focus on improvement, never in changes”.

Change is really hard, but we can always start by improving ourselves everyday a little bit, later changes will come. 

7. People are often afraid to talk about imperfections. What’s your biggest one?

I’m unpunctual, especially when meeting my friends. Thanks god I’m on time at work (most of the times).  

I need to add to “unpunctual” that I always want to do so many things at the same time / day and is not possible… if i also want to have a good life quality. In the past years, I’m learning to improve that.

8. You also have acting ambitions. Have you made a move in this direction?

I just started very basics courses during the pandemic. I’m looking forward to study and get to know more about acting. I would like to continue in a soon future with this profession.  

9. What do you watch when you have free time?  

I enter to Netflix of course and depends on the mood I watch romantic comedies, or action movies, or even futurist ones and documental in general.  

10. Whose life would you play on the big screen?

“Rose“ in Titanic or Julia Roberts in “Eat, Pray, Love” . I just feel them a lot in this role.  

11. Tell us something about yourself that we won’t find on the Internet…

1)I have built a dressing room at my parent house that I didn’t share yet in my Instagram  

(@mj.minguez ) but soon I will! stay tuned and follow my journey there J.  

2) I have never put a picture of “a boyfriend” in my Instagram, I have always kept relationships in privacy.
